Scene II, as illustrated in the photograph attached
above, shows the manual op hand roll-over method of removing
hemp core and replacing the hemp core with a steel core by the
use of a marlin spike during which operation the rope is held
between vices and the marlin spike is rotated in the helix of the
strands of the wire rope. During this operation the marlin spike,
the outgoing hemp core and the incoming steel core are rotated
about the rope. This method of recoring wire rope is very old in
the art and was, for a short time, commercially used by the
plaintiff, Charles F. Hansen, prior to his making the invention
covered by the patent in suit.
The pictures of Scene II were taken on the plaintiff's
premises in Alton, California, on September 17, 1957.
